Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 Is Better Than iPad 2 Or Not!

Samsung’s latest tablet, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 has everything the iPad 2 is offering. Its brilliant Super PLS screen technology is nothing short of remarkable, many experts and top reviewers believe that it is the best display they’ve seen on a mobile device, with its vivid color and wide viewing angle. TouchWiz UX takes users to a new level of visual experience by providing a differentiated and more refined user interface. However, Samsung doesn’t provide a way for us to disable TouchWiz outright, this is obviously unfortunate for people who prefer the default interface in stock Android version. Functionality could also use some tweaking. Although you would love the Social Hub feature, you may eventually feel that it is just a glorified RSS reader. WebOS offers better solution with Synergy.

There are a lot of things you would love about Samsung’s latest tablet, but the price could be a huge turnoff for many buyers. Motorola, Asus and Acer recently cut their prices down to respond to the tougher competition, however Samsung appears to be intent in matching Apple’s pricing scheme. This leaves shoppers juggling between 16 GB Galaxy Tab 10.1 and 16 GB iPad 2 as both have the same price. Consumers may also choose the 32 GB Eee Transformer, a tablet – notebook hybrid manufactured by Asus.

Samsung’s tablet is definitely sexy and thin, but it still lacks a few features available in other tablets. For example, Acer’s tablet, the Iconia Tab A500 has USB connectivity.  Those who want to have a tablet that can also work as a notebook should get Asus’s Eee Pad Transformer, while Motorola Xoom offers a better camera. Even after we put aside all of its deficiencies, you will still dissatisfied with its recharge time. Although the Galaxy Tab 10.1 offers a pretty decent battery life, it takes too long to charge it. The tablet also doesn’t allow you to charge to a computer using a USB port which makes the whole experience even more painful.

Samsung definitely needs to drop its price, because more reasonable pricing is among Android devices’ biggest benefits. Right now, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 is excessively priced compared to other Android tablets.

If you are in the market for a high-end tablet,  Apple’s tablet, the iPad 2 is definitely still on top, due to better branding and more solid support from third-party developers. However as a player in the tablet market, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 definitely comes to the close second due to its stunning display. Samsung knows what it takes to build a superb tablet. Now, it is up to the big G to improve the operating system situation.

Only with a more aggressive development Google can close the gap with Apple. It’s already eight months since the release of Android 3.x (Honeycomb) and apps specifically developed for Android tablets are still less than 300. The selection seems higher in the Android market, because many of the apps are simply smartphone apps with modified interface to match tablets’ larger screen resolutions.
