How to install Windows 7 with the original upgrade disc
I write this article after the “experience” I had with a Dell Mini 10v Netbook that I managed to install Windows 7 and may be updated daily (ie not pirated version or activated by who knows what strange method), but not with an image .iso downloaded from the internet or with a genuine DVD but with a Windows 7 DVD (original) upgrade kit!
To get a little clearer with the upgrade kit of Windows 7: this is a DVD that cost far less than the DVD to install Windows 7 and that, in theory, can only upgrade to Windows 7 starting from a previously installed operating system (Windows Vista or Windows XP).
The “discovery” is that through such a disk upgrade – dedicated from Microsoft only to the upgrade (which comes with an activation key upgrade only) can be performed a “clean install” of Windows 7 even more than that through a simple “hack” in the registry system, freshly installed operating system can be activated and updated through the serial’s only for the upgrade.
So we see in the next steps as Windows 7 may be installed and activated online starting from a formatted hard drive and a having only a DVD of upgrading Windows 7:
1. With the Windows 7 upgrade, launch the disk installation procedure of the operating system (not from the operating system but directly booting from the upgrade disk).
2. Follow the normal steps to install the operating system, choose Custom (advanced) when asked if you want to upgrade the operating system. Choosing Custom (advanced) you will have then to choose the partition that Windows 7 will be installed (format it, making sure first that you save all personal data, etc.).
Note: I do not insist on the steps to install Windows 7 because it is not the objective of this article.
3. When you will be asked to enter serial activation, do not enter anything and uncheck the Automatically Activate Windows When I’m online.
4. Wait for completion of the procedure to install Windows 7.
5. Once installed the operating system type regedit in the Search box on the Start menu.
6. Once launched the registry editor navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup\OOBE
7. Click on the key called OOBE and you see on the right part the subkey MediaBootInstall – right click on it and put the “0″ value.
8. Launch Command Promt Windows 7 by typing cmd in the Start menu box – will be done with administrator privileges, then type the following command:
slmgr -rearm and press Enter then wait for the command execution confirmation message reset and restart the computer.
9. Finally, after the computer has restarted, go to Control Panel/System and Security/System and activate Windows 7.
As you will see the results: Windows 7 operating system activated online by Microsoft!
To test the validity of that written above you have only to begin the installing of the updates!
Others said as well as from personal experience with a Dell Mini 10v were not encountered problems after installing the updates and Service Pack 1!
Also, as is easy to understand, this process of “clean install” of Windows 7 may be applied with any computer whose configuration supports Windows 7 and with any DVD to upgrade Windows 7.
