How To Install Microsoft Office 2007 In Ubuntu 11.10

I know that now many Linux lovers will cry heresy, but there is a wide audience that seeks in all ways to install MS Office on Linux. The office suite from Microsoft is considered by many as necessary and not at the level of LibreOffice (but believe me, LibreOffice is very good) and are more and more people who ask me how to install MS Office on Ubuntu. In the past I have shown a valid procedure for MS Office 2003 , but today we will see how to install MS Office 2007 on Ubuntu 11.10 (I believe that the procedure is also valid for other versions of ubuntu).

The first thing you need is updated to the latest stable version of Wine. If you have not, open a terminal and type:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa ubuntu-wine/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine1.3

Now we need to download and install Microsoft Core Fonts Library:

wget http://imaginux.com/repos/pool/renzo/msttcorefonts-offline_1.0-0ubuntu1_all.deb
sudo dpkg-i msttcorefonts-offline_1.0-0ubuntu1_all.deb

DLL and install the components needed to install Office 2007 on Ubuntu:

sudo winetrick

and select the components of Windows DLLs. In particular, going to install MSXML3, dotnet20, gdiplus, riched20, and riched30 vcrun2005. You’re done, now you just need to install MS Office 2007 thereby creating an installer. If you downloaded the installer for Office 2007 and saved it, for example, on the desk, then to install it type:

wine ~ / techhow/nome_installer_di_office_2007.exe

At this point you should be able to install MS Office 2007 on Ubuntu.
